Sheriff: Man taking selfies with gun fatally shoots himself
It wasn't the first photo the 43-year-old Concrete, Washington, resident had taken with his gun. Police are investigating his death as accidental.
Skagit County deputies say a man taking selfies with a gun died after he accidentally shot himself in the face on Sunday.
County sheriff patrol chief Chad Clark said bullets were loaded and unloaded several times during the photo shoot, which took place off and on throughout the day.
The survey also found that the proportion of suicides involving guns was eight times higher. In 2015, a 19-year-old from Houston died while taking pictures of himself with a gun and posting them on Instagram.
He was taking the photo of himself with his girlfriend at his property on February 28 when the gun went off.
The San Francisco-based data service provider Priceonomics reported that there have been 49 recorded selfie-related deaths since 2014 in addition to this incident.
The death is the latest in a series of unusual fatalities related to selfies - the act of taking self-portraits with smartphones. To confront the apparently growing public health hazard, the Indian government chose to ban some selfies outright.
