Two New Mirror's Edge Catalyst Trailers Showcase Movement and Combat
You play that same courier, Faith, in this new title - which actually works as some kind of prequel to what we've already played.
Two videos for Mirror's Edge Catalyst have been released giving you a look at the game's combat and movement.
EA Dice recently posted two videos showing off what that adventure will look like: the gameplay movement video shows Faith in action as she progresses through the city, with the other video showing off the game's fluid combat system. Imagine a Tony Hawk game but with more violence. A new Shift move grants a short boost of speed and you can perform a quick 180 or 90 degree turn with the Quick Turn mechanic. Faith can take advantage of the environment and move throughout it by using zip lines, balancing on ledges, running horizontally or vertically on walls and swinging on pipes. The Mag Rope allows Faith to latch onto specific points in the world which provides "unique traversal and interaction opportunities". When running you build momentum to gain top speed which will allow you to make long jumps across rooftops or sliding between tight spaces. Focus is built up by continuously moving, making her impervious to enemy attacks. Once Faith has gained Focus, enemies will not be able to hit her. By maxing out Focus, she enters a state called Flow, allowing her to attack in new and more powerful ways. I didn't see Faith hold a single gun in any of this new Mirror's Edge: Catalyst footage at all.
Catalyst arrives on the PC, Xbox One and PS4 on May 22nd.
