The iMac will cost $1,299. A voice-controlled assistant slots into that neatly, giving you greater control of each piece of your Apple jigsaw. It's also what Microsoft is targeting with the Surface Pro; a new model comes out on June 15.

Apple Pay's P-to-P offering will be made available across iOS devices as well as the Apple Watch as part of the iOS 11 update.

You'll still see a 10-hour battery life, a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 7-megapixel front-facing camera.

Following in the footsteps of competitors like Samsung, which started allowing screen recording (and GIF creation) on its last few Galaxy phones, Apple appears ready to add that functionality in iOS 11. "When you are driving, you don't need to be responding to these kind of messages". If they reply "urgent" to that message, that message will be marked as such and go through.

iOS 11 also brings the biggest makeover yet for the App Store.

Among the new features of iOS 11 is the ability to make person-to-person payments through Apple's messaging app, thanks to new integration with the Apple Pay system. Apple is launching the developer platform ARKit, which will allow them to take advantage of an iPhone or iPad's camera, sensors, gyroscopes, and other hardware in order to offer AR experiences. Only the most recent messages will be kept on the device to save storage. Friends will also be able to add music to your Up Next queue, which is like a lightweight version of Spotify's collaborative playlists.

Another Safari feature will stop video from automatically playing on websites.

On iPad, there's an expanded dock that's reminiscent of the one on macOS, improved split-view multitasking, drag-and-drop support, and a new app switcher that shows thumbnails in a grid (instead of giant cards).

An early glimpse at updates to iPhone and Mac software has become a tradition at Apple's annual conference for app developers, which begins Monday in San Jose.

Apple Inc (AAPL.O) on Monday introduced the HomePod, a voice-controlled speaker that can make music suggestions and adjust home temperatures, taking aim at Amazon.com Inc's (AMZN.O) Alexa feature and Echo devices.
