Kyle Edmund failed to make it five after falling to Gael Monfils yesterday, but Murray set the bar high for expectations after his game on Wednesday. I always remember Pete Sampras once saying that you play seven matches to win a Grand Slam and play at your best in maybe two or three. When you're playing a guy who has all of the shots like him it's hard.

"It was getting dark towards the end and I was probably thinking a bit about that".

"We go into The Championships with as healthy of grass as we possibly can so we can endure those extremes".

"And I moved pretty well too, against guys who play a lot of drop shots and come forward you need to do that".

The 28th seeded Fognini, who served for the fourth set once while up 5-2, had another opportunity later at 5-4. There was just one problem: Fognini was out of challenges and the point went to Murray. He was pushed well behind the baseline by the aggressive play of Fognini and struggled to stay in control of rallies. Then a tight game to break him as well at the 5-5 game.

"In the third set I really stepped up in the key moments".

The defending champion comfortably came through his first round encounter with Alexander Bublik on Monday in straight sets and said he was heading straight for the ice bath as he looked to improve his fitness.

Azarenka recovered from losing the first set and survived a rollercoaster third to win 3-6 6-1 6-4 in two hours and six minutes on Centre Court, the Belarusian satisfied with her determination and persistence.

Fognini's shotmaking was beginning to flow and he broke again to lead 3-2 after Murray's backhand found the net.

World number one Andy Murray has voiced concern over the current state of Wimbledon's grass courts and said that they have not been in good condition.

Murray navigated past mavericks Sasha Bublik and Dustin Brown with minimal fuss in the first two rounds and, though Fognini marks a step up in pedigree, he acknowledges that preparing should be easier. Paire just doesn't have it in him to beat Murray on this stage.
