The Nintendo Switch Online app is Nintendo's method of dealing with online functions we have become used to seeing built into the console online-gaming experience. Secondly, it serves as a voice chat client while playing Switch games (the console now doesn't have any on-board voice chat). For this year, the service is free, but starting next year, Nintendo will be charging $19.99 yearly. However, once the app launches, games with online gameplay will collect annual subscription.

Practical impact aside, the design decision is simply baffling when you compare the Switch voice chat app to other phone-based chat solutions.

This means you can send online play invitations to players on your Nintendo Switch system's friend list.

You can invite friends to play with you in supported games via social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

Nintendo releases an application that will help users enjoy Switch's functionality.

The Nintendo Switch Online app will work with "Splatoon 2", which is scheduled to be released on July 21.

"No. Players are not able to start voice chat communication until they have joined the Online Lounge within Splatoon 2", the Kyoto firm answers.

Chats can be with the whole room or in teams for head-to-head action.

The Nintendo Switch Online app won't actually work on all Switch games.

Nintendo Switch E3 2017 games lineup Sun, May 28, 2017 NINTENDO Switch fans can expect to find out more about these exclusives at E3 2017. You can download it right now (on the AppStore anyway, it's possible, the editor has just done it). The fee seems reasonable as it shall also give users unlimited access to the anticipated collection of classic Nintendo games. In fact, Splatoon 2 isn't due to arrive until July 21st, this Friday.

So far, I've only really dabbled with Splatoon 2's Turf Wars in a major way, and a lot of that time was spent with people who hadn't yet realised that squelching their foes wasn't going to bring them much glory.
