UFC 214 Predictions: Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones 7/29/17

Lesnar's first run in the UFC saw him win the heavyweight title and lose it to Cain Velasquez in his seventh professional fight.

This bout marks the 30-year-old Jones' last, best chance to get back on track and try to live up to the greatness long expected of him. Cormier captured the vacant belt at UFC 187 and has gone on to defend it twice since.

"I probably would (accept the fight)", the Englishman said. Ovince Saint Preux took the offer and met Jon Jones in a UFC interim light heavyweight title fight at UFC 197. Over the last two years, however, he has only competed once due to a plethora of legal and personal issues that he's run into.

Talk of a fight between Jones and Lesnar heated up earlier this week when the former publicly enterained the idea of taking on "The Next Big Thing".

"For me, I think this is happening at the flawless time", said Cyborg, upbeat and positive just days in advance of her championship showdown.

Two up-and-comers in the division, Jimi Manuwa and Volkan Oezdemir, fought on Saturday's main card, with the latter scoring a 22-second knockout.

Jones and Cormier are headlining the UFC's best show of the summer, and likely the entire year, in Orange County.

"I don't have the words to say, just thank you for everything, for everyone who watched me", Cyborg stated after the fight.

If anybody in the world could relate to the exact pressures and pitfalls faced by Jones over the past several years as a wildly successful mixed martial artist, Cormier would be that man. "So we'll see, I just might", Johnson said.

Woodley (18-3-1) retained his welterweight title with a unanimous decision over Damian Maia (26-6) in a fight fans hated for its overall lack of action.

"We know that he likes to dip his head to the left and we were banking on him to instinctually dip that way sooner or later", Jones told Joe Rogan after the fight. "I didn't throw many high kicks and I surprised him with that one and it finished the job". "He is a true champion for the rest of his life", said Jones, who comforted a crying Cormier following the bout.

Fighting for the first time in 15 months, Jones rocked Cormier with a kick to the head and went for the finish as a wobbly "DC" stumbled and fell before he was finished with elbows and punches.

The loss dropped Cormier to 19-2 in his MMA career; both of his losses came at Jones' hands.

It had been rumored for the past few weeks that both Jones and current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar were interested in a potential Super Fight, possibly stemming from the enormous financial success that awaits Floyd Mayweather and Connor McGregor on August 26th. Jones now brags about his cocaine usage and makes sure that Cormier is fully aware that he was beaten by Jones after a "weekend of cocaine".
